Rebekah Vardy was one of the controversial celebs on I’m A Celebrity this year. Unfortunately this has attracted a lot of unwanted trolling towards the WAG on social media.
She finished 9th on the show but managed to stir up rumours of bullying towards DJ Iain Lee.
After being voted out of the jungle she claimed Iain was a “fake” and insisted he had a secret “game plan”. She said: “He is going in there to win and he is playing the sympathy card and he isolates himself from the rest of the camp and then as soon as the cameras are on he wants the limelight.”
She back tracked on those comments at the time and said Extra Camp presenter Joe Swash put her “under pressure” to make bad comments about him.
She’s recently been appearing on Loose Women and opened up about her state of mind after leaving I’m A Celeb and the horrible backlash she has received on Social Media.
Fans of the ITV jungle show, which was won by Made In Chelsea’s Georgia Toffolo had suggested she had been awful to the radio host.
Leicester footballer Jamie Vardy’s wife, 35, was singled out by fans of the show with ex Chelsea player Dennis Wise and boxer Amir Khan also accused of bullying.
When the I’m A Celeb ended, Iain denied he had been picked on by the trio but that didn’t stop people making some pretty awful comments on Twitter.
On the I’m A Celeb spin off show ‘Coming Out’, she fell into her dads arms and poured her heart out as she found out about the accusations of bullying.
She’s been recruited as a Loose Women panelist and speaking about the situation you could see the hurt over the accusations was still very raw as she said: “It was an immensely horrible experience, I struggled to deal with it for a while, I still struggle to deal with it now.”
“Iain and I had so many deep conversations.”
She even revealed how she had to explain what had happened to her daughter Mags so she didn’t think bad of her.
Rebekah added: “I told her ‘this is what mum is being made to look like’.
“You know that’s not true.”
The new addition to the panel added:”But it’s good for her to see that kind of thing, and see how things can be portrayed.”
Despite the backlash, the reality TV star said she didn’t regret a thing about her time in the jungle.
She added: “The whole thing was such an incredible experience.”
After initial eviction from the show she was filmed as she was told she’d been accused of being a bully and that’s when she broke down in her dad’s arms.
Speaking to her dad in the car, she said of Iain: ‘He can cut the mood in camp in seconds. It’s a shame that he feels he has to be like that, but who knows what hes going through, it’s hard to speculate.’ She the said ‘I don’t care anyway’.
She then received a phone call from her own manager that revealed it had been perceived her, Dennis Wise and Amir Khan had ganged up against Iain Lee.
‘You know what, I was the one that was being the most supportive of him. A bully? I’ve never been a bully in my whole entire life,’ she said before breaking down in tears.
Adding fuel to the fire though, people noticed her shaking hands with Dennis Wise and Amir Khan after the announcement that Iain had been evicted from the jungle doing the final.
Later in the show when she got back together with Dennis she was quick to bring up the whole situation again.
She said: ‘I came out to the biggest shit storm. And you know I don’t get upset about things and you know I’m really strong but I actually cried in the car.’
‘It really upset me. Something so strong has been said about not just me. You, Jamie, Amir. That we were part of a gang.’ Dennis replied: ‘I am gobsmacked with it. The reason being is because this is not the case. I’ll be surprised with Iain if he doesn’t clarify all of this.’
Rebekah, obviously had this playing on her mind and approached Iain’s sister Jo to explain herself.
She said: ‘Hi we need to talk. It’s completely been blown out of proportion. Honestly it’s not… I was trying to help him so much.’
Iain’s sister replied: ‘We will have a catch-up – cocktails.’
Rebekah wasn’t happy though and insisted: ‘It really upset me,’ to which Jo replied: ‘Don’t worry about it, you were so brave.’
She later said to the camera: ‘I wasn’t a ringleader and I definitely wasn’t a catalyst to anything that was going on with him in there.’
After Becky was caught up in this controversy and the fact comic Iain Lee suffers from anxiety and depression angry viewers called for her to step down from the role as a mental health ambassador.
Rebekah Vardy is a staunch supporter of UK charity YoungMinds, which champions the wellbeing and mental health of young people.
Viewers of the I’m a celeb took to Twitter to call for Rebekah to be dropped from her role as a mental health ambassador, with one writing: “@YoungMindsUK Get rid of Rebekah Vardy please, listen to her comments about mental health in the I’m a celebrity jungle. Disgusting.”
Another added: “@YoungMindsUK You’d better kick Rebekah Vardy to the kerb. She’s nothing but a bully and has no idea about mental health.”
A third person wrote: “I hope that YoungMindsUK reconsider their decision to use Rebekah Vardy as an ambassador for mental health after she displayed that insensitive, demeaning attitude towards Iain regarding his anxiety today.”
Some people were quick to defend her though saying: “There is absolutely no bullying going on.”
An ITV spokesperson said about the accusations: “The welfare of our celebrities is of utmost importance and we’ve not witnessed nor had any complaints of bullying from any of them.”
