It’s been a very popular topic recently hasn’t it? What you ask? The announcement of the engagement between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of course.
An official engagement photo shoot of the couple has stirred up a storm on social media and people are more than angry at what they have seen.
Is it the fact they’re lovingly holding hands? Is it the fact they’re both staring off into the distance and smiling? Is it the fact it’s black and white? Errmmm no. It’s actually to do with what she was wearing.
The truly stunning photographs were taken by Alexi Lubomirski earlier this week at Frogmore House, Windsor and show the future Princess wearing a dress created by the English designers Ralph & Russo. Prince Harry is wearing a Blue suit with a hite shirt and blue tie.
The dress was described as a ‘black tulle gown with silk organza skirt, hand appliquéd with silk tulle ruffles and embroidered with gold feather thread-work’ which if true was supposedly worth £56,000! What are your thoughts on the situation?
The mirror newspaper pointed out that the cost of the dress was almost ‘twice the average national wage’ and searching on Twitter people are understandably very annoyed by this.
The amount of money Meghan Markle [allegedly] spent on her engagement photo shoot dress would pay my rent for the next 7 years… Merry Christmas everyone

Not sure wearing a £56,000 dress for her engagement pictures will endear Meghan Markle to the British public!

So apparently Meghan Markle’s engagement photo shoot dress cost £45k – the same amount as my student loan debt 🙃🙃🙃

Until the facts of the dress are revealed it could well have been borrowed for the shoot, or she may have bought it herself with the money she makes from being an actress. Some people obviously think it’s an unnecessary expense but it probably wasn’t intended to annoy people.
Princess Michael of Kent has had the Royal Family in the news again this week and strangely enough iiit’s in relation to something she wore.
She was pictured heading to a Christmas Dinner hosted by Her Royal Highness, The Queen, where she would meet Meghan Markle.
Princess Michael is married to a cousin of HRH the Queen and was wearing a beige coat, black turtleneck and a brooch on her coat.
So you’d have thought people would have been annoyed by the turtleneck, but it was the brooch that attracted attention this time.
The brooch is known as ‘Blackmoor’ art, it depicts men of colour and has been the subject of much debate for many years.
It was spotted by a lady called Lainey who has her own website. She pointed out the story behind the brooch by saying:
There’s history to that kind of jewelry [sic]… These kinds of pieces depict – and fetishise – Africans in subservient roles. To put it bluntly, this is a piece of jewelry [sic] made out of slave imagery.
And a woman who once told black people to ‘go back to the colonies’ at a restaurant decided that would be what she would wear to the Queen’s Christmas lunch, where the Queen’s grandson was introducing his fiancée, who is biracial, to the extended family for the first time.

When Prince Harry’s relationship with Meghan became public, he released a very rare statement but he was subjected to some terrible comments from racists which he couldn’t ignore.
He released another statement through a Kensington Palace spokesperson which said although he feels ‘lucky’ to have the ‘warmth’ extended to him from so many supportive members of the public, there’s things he just can’t ignore and he feels in the past week ‘a line has been crossed’
It also said:
His girlfriend Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment… the smear on the front page of a national newspaper; the racial undertones of comment pieces’ and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments.
Hopefully people will back off from the ridiculous trolling of the couple now.
Going back to the engagement photos though and according to a body language expert Prince Harry is “clearly openly happy” about his relationship with Markle.
He asked the ‘Suits’ actress to marry him earlier this year and Thursday saw the release of the official engagement photos.

A body language expert called Judi James has done a write up for MailOnline explaining what the pictures say to her.
“Harry is clearly openly happy to let the rest of the world know how happy and in love he is and Meghan’s high levels of confidence seem to have allowed him to sidestep the normal formality of a royal romance and show a far more intimate side of their relationship.”
Judi also observes about the “stunningly sexy” photographs that they make you feel as though you are “intruding” on a private moment between two people.
She goes on: “If there were any protocol about the intimacy levels of royal engagement photos Harry and Meghan have cut right through it with the stunningly sexy poses that show a couple so much in love that the viewer might seem to be intruding.
“The new royal couple did take time out in the full-length shot to throw some eye contact towards the camera but its clear from Harry’s soft and dreamy eye expression in particular that he’s only real concern is the woman sitting between his legs.”
She notes that the “besotted smile” on Harry’s face is “authentic” and not at all posed for the camera.

She claimed: “Harry’s besotted smile makes him look almost unrecognisable and an expression like this just has to be authentic rather than posed for the camera. [Meghan is] looking down in a flirtatious way but the way their heads are nuzzling makes you feel like clearing your throat to let them know you’re still watching.”
They are to be married on 19th May next year at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. Something which was previously announced by the palace in a statement which read: “His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales and Ms. Meghan Markle will marry on 19th May 2018. Today’s announcement follows earlier confirmation of the month of the wedding and its location at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.”
Ms Markle will be baptised into the Church of England and confirmed before the wedding.
