Fans of the newly engaged royal couple were outraged when bride-to-be Meghan Markle splashed out on a $75,000 dress to mark the occasion during a photo shoot and it seems the former Suits actress’ own sister is rather disgusted by the move.
During an interview, half-sibling Samantha Grant revealed Meghan should be doing more to help out her bankrupt father, who will reportedly be walking her down the aisle on her big day.
Talking to The Mirror, Samantha said: “If you can spend $75,000 on a dress, you can spend $75,000 on your dad.”
The 73-year-old is said to be suffering with a ‘bad leg’ but is working with physios and doctors in the hope that he will be able to carry out the important duty when the pair tie the knot at Windsor Castle’s, St George’s Chapel in May.
When asked whether their father will definitely be attending the ceremony during a television interview on The Wright Stuff, Samantha told the press that he will be there, no matter what it takes: “Yes he is, God forbid unless a plane crashes through his roof, he’ll be there one way or the other.
“So any rumour to the contrary is… my favourite new word is becoming ‘oh rubbish’. Yeah, so he will be there.”
As a result of her sister’s engagement to Prince Harry, Samantha has released a brand new book entitled ‘The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister’, however, claims it won’t be a daring tell-all; neither was it her ambition to become rich overnight as a result of its success.
Speaking to host of The Wright Stuff, Matthew Wright, Samantha said: “I think any of us who have experiences and feelings, positive, warm, insightful or otherwise and we are able to share them apparently—I wouldn’t say that it’s we’re cashing in because there’s certainly a large audience and market of people who are interested and curious. So why not share information that is socially and historically valuable? I feel like it’s kind of a service to do that.”
The title of the book has also gone on to make headlines, however, Samantha stated that the ‘Pushy’ phrase was used light-heartedly in respect of what had been printed about her sibling in the media.
“People have taken the title so literally, and I think that’s funny,’ she said.
“I chose the title because I was more making a mockery of tabloids who, at one point, called my sister Princess Pushy. The opposite is true. And so I thought, you know, to make fun of that and illustrate that she really is not, I’m going to choose that title and run with it.”
Samantha also went on to admit that she is unaware whether or not Meghan’s extended family, including herself, will even be invited to attend the ceremony after reports suggested that the pair have drifted apart in recent years – but Samantha claims this rumour simply isn’t true.
“Of course I would like to be there,” She went on to say. “Invitations haven’t gone out yet, but I hope so.”
“…She has a large family who were always there with her and for her,” Samantha later tweeted to followers, in referral to Meghan. “Our household was very normal and when dad and Doria divorced, we all made it so it was like she had two houses. No one was estranged, she was just too busy. Read my book complete with facts and photos”
Meanwhile, Prince Harry hasn’t as of yet asked his older brother William to be his best man and made a joke that he is “still working” on this year’s schedule to see whether he will be available to attend the occasion.
When questioned on whether Harry had ‘officially’ asked him to take on the important role on the big day, William simply replied: “He hasn’t asked me yet, just to clear that up. It could be a sensitive subject.”
Kensington Palace did go on to make the statement that many official details have not as of yet been announced, but will be revealed over the next few months: “We look forward to sharing more details about the wedding in due course” a source from the palace told the press.
The joke made by William on whether any plans will clash, refers to the news that the wedding is set to take place on the day of the FA Cup final, leaving football fans everywhere slightly annoyed.
“You don’t get married on FA Cup final day, every bloke knows that! Not sure William will be happy.” One Twitter user quipped.
“Be an absolute disgrace if the FA Cup Final is shunted from BBC One to BBC 2 because of the Royal wedding” another wrote.
“With the FA Cup final on the same day as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wedding let’s hope the BBC push any Royal Wedding coverage to BBC2 or the red button given the Cup final was in the diary 1st”.
Before another hilariously added: “The FA Cup final clashes with the Royal Wedding. I don’t understand why the FA’s president can’t use his influence and get it rescheduled. There’s plenty of other days his brother can get married.”
In order to abide by royal protocol, Meghan has also been expected to delete all of her social media accounts.
It’s no secret that current members of the royal family have social media profiles on sites such as Twitter and Instagram, however, these accounts are run by those who work within the households – and not members of the royal family themselves.
After news broke of Meghan’s decision to quit social media, a source told The Daily Mail: “Ms. Markle is grateful to everyone who has followed her social media accounts over the years. However, as she has not used these accounts for some time, she has taken the decision to close them”.
On her social media profiles, Meghan had entertained followers with a whole host of posts, including numerous gorgeous selfies, snaps from her trips abroad and even positive daily quotes.
