We know all about ‘moving with the times’, but has Meghan Markle taken matters a step too far? During a recent engagement photo shoot with Prince Harry, the Suits actress’ choice of dress has certainly grabbed the attention of the public and the media…and it hasn’t gone down too well.
The photographs taken by fashion expert Alexi Lubomirski showcase Harry and Meghan cuddling together in an extremely relaxed manner, as the prince’s fiancé showcases a glimpse of her sparkling diamond ring.
According to The Sun, the photographer was delighted to have been involved with celebrating the young couple’s celebration and thanked them personally for having him on board.
“A huge thank you to HRH Prince Harry and Ms Markle, for allowing me to take their official engagement portraits.” he said.
“It was an incredible honour to be asked to document this wonderful event, but also a great privilege to be invited to share and be a witness to this young couple’s love for one another. I cannot help but smile when I look at the photos that we took.”
While fans are loving the adorable snaps, it hasn’t gone unnoticed that Meghan may have overstepped the mark with her outfit choice. She is seen to be wearing a rather revealing garment than many believe was highly unsuitable for the occasion.
Designed with a black sheer bodice and gold sequin embroidery, the braless gown which is said to be worth £56,000 may have been a little too raunchy for a future royal.
According to the designer of the dress, Ralph & Russo, the piece is described as a “black tulle gown with silk organza skirt, hand appliquéd with silk tulle ruffles and embroidered with gold feather thread-work”.
Meghan’s choice to wear a British label for the shoot certainly shows her dedication to of becoming a member of the royal family. The brand is well-known for its associtation with high-profile stars, with the likes of Hollywood A-Listers Blake Lively and Angelina Jolie wearing gowns at special events.
Others have also been left questioning where the funding had come from to purchase the expensive garment. According to an insider at the palace, the royal couple did, in fact, pay for it out of their own pockets, rather than out of the royal funds.
Sparking quite a debate on Twitter as to the choice of outfit, one user wrote: “The Prince and the showgirl. lol what is she wearing?”
Before another added: “Bit of a revealing dress there Megs.”
“Is Meghan Markle wearing a sheer dress with no underwear on the official engagement photo?” one user quesitoned.
Yet, the majority of photos released to mark the engagement have largely received a great deal of positivity. Kensington Palace released a statement on behalf of the couple to thank the nation for their support.
“Thank you so much for all of the wonderful comments following the release of Prince Harry and Ms Meghan Markle’s engagement photographs.” the source said.
“The couple are so grateful for the warm and generous messages they have received during such a happy time in their lives. As a way to say thank you, they have decided to share this candid photograph from the day of their portrait sittings directly with all of you.”
Meanwhile, the Queen has made her thoughts very clear on the upcoming marriage of Harry and Meghan and has reportedly forced her grandson to make a controversial decision.
According to latest reports, Meghan has been left extremely ‘hurt’ by the Queen’s opinion on their relationship.
An insider source revealed that the Queen has ordered a prenup to be signed before the couple walk down the aisle to say ‘I do’, in order to protect the wealth of the Royal family and particularly Harry’s own fortune.
The source also suggested that Meghan is now worried that the royals believe there may be alternative reasons as to why she has chosen to give up her current lifestyle and marry into the family.
The insider source said that Meghan is distraught “that it would even cross the Queen’s mind that she could have an ulterior motive for marrying Prince Harry. Harry loves Meghan and will do anything for her.”
The pair announced their engagement late last month and on Friday 15th December, the couple publicised their agreed wedding date. According to official reports, Prince Harry and Meghan are set to tie the knot on 19th May 2018 at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.
In a statement, Kensington Palace said: “His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales and Ms. Meghan Markle will marry on 19th May 2018. Today’s announcement follows earlier confirmation of the month of the wedding and its location at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.”
It’s also been reported that traditions are set to be broken as Meghan will be joining the royals for their festive celebrations on the 25th December. As part of the usual protocol, those who aren’t blood linked or wed into the royal family are usually not invited.
On Christmas morning, the family routine consists of a church service, before heading back to Sandringham estate for a traditional dinner. The family will then sit down at 3pm to watch the Queen’s Christmas speech.
On 20th December, Meghan joined Harry’s family for a pre-Christmas dinner, but is reported to be taking things a step further by joining them as a member of their extended family on the 25th.
Arriving at the palace on Wednesday for the private dinner included the likes of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince George and Prince Charlotte and the Duke and Duchess of Kent.
Approximately 50 members of the royal family are expected to be in attendance at Sandringham on Christmas Day, with Kensington Palace confirming that Meghan will also be joining in on the royal Christmas celebrations, stating: “You can expect to see the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry and Ms Markle at Sandringham on Christmas Day,”.
According to a source, the Queen has softened in her approach towards tradition in recent years and has agreed to break the usual Christmas protocol.
