Katie Hopkins is perhaps one of the most controversial figures in Britain at the moment, given her rightwing opinions and predilection to court controversy.
She was recently in the news again owing to the fact that her contract with Mail Online was ended by “mutual consent”, but no further details were provided.
Her last Mail Online article detailed the reasoning behind her decision to wear a wedding dress to the Conservative party conference in Manchester in October, as she wrote: “I divorced my first husband, who was good enough to marry me despite this dress in which I am told I look like a transsexual body builder, and we did it with some efficiency despite hating each other back then,” Hopkins said. “It should be possible for us to do the same with [Jean-Claude] Juncker [the European commission president], and I hate him even more.”
But her opinions have landed her in more trouble than just online hatred, as she has also lost legal battles that have stemmed from her comments. This year, the food writer Jack Monroe won £24,000 in damages and more than £100,000 in legal fees from a libel action over two Hopkins tweets.
Not only that, The Mail Online had to pay out £150,000 to a British Muslim family whom Hopkins had falsely accused of extremism after they were denied entry to the USA for a trip to Disneyland.
But whatever you might say about Katie Hopkins, the one thing you can’t take away from her is that she is always brutally honest about herself.
With that in mind, it is perhaps not a surprise that she has spoken candidly about the fact that she has considered the idea of being transgender. Moreover, she doesn’t care if she’s mistaken for a man.
The TV star, who first made a name for herself on The Apprentice, made the comments while she was promoting her new book – Rude – in this week’s Closer magazine.
Speaking to the magazine, she said: “Do I massively feel like a woman or a girl? No. I definitely feel more male. And I come across as more male; I get the world more from a male point of view.
I see the creature that is Katie Hopkins is proclaiming to any daft bastard that will listen that she has jumped onto the transgender bandwagon and now identifies as a man.

“I don’t care if they see me as a woman or a man. Everyone assumes that I’m a lesbian or that I look like a drag queen. And, yes, I do look like a third-rater Ellen DeGeneres.”
The divisive, outspoken star, who often comments on subjects like Islam, feminism and mental health – often at the most distasteful times – also confessed that at one point in her life she had thoughts of suicide.
She specifically related these thoughts to her epilepsy, which was so severe that it required brain surgery, and with regards to this, she said that it was an option during her violent fits.
“It’s awkward to talk about,” she added.
“I wouldn’t want my children to think I was going to kill myself, but, certainly, there were times when I’ve walked out of the house and it would’ve been easier to toddle off and not have another night of fits.”
