After that now very famous fall through a trap door at the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards in October, Gemma Collins hinted she’ll be looking for legal advice on the embarrassing incident.
An unconfirmed report has come out though saying the star of The Only Way is Essex will not go through with the legal action if she gets to appear on a show she really wants to.
That show is we hear you ask?
Non other than Strictly Come Dancing. Gemma who is now 36, is said to be wanting a place on the next show in exchange for the accident.
According to a source that has spoken to The Sun: “She has said to BBC that she will not pursue legal action if they give her a slot on the show. She loves Strictly and has always wanted to have a crack at it.
“She thinks this might be her chance to get on the show.”
Is this a good move for her?
There has been no official word from Gemma Collins as to whether this is true or not, the BBC have haven’t commented either, so to say we’re sceptical about all this would be an understatement.
The BBC issued a statement after the incident saying she had previously been warned about the trapdoor before she took to stage.
The statement read: “The BBC takes the health and safety of everyone involved very seriously and we are awaiting a full report from Remedy – the production company who made the show – about the incident, but they have told us that Gemma did receive a full briefing before going on stage.”
Gemma on the other hand said she had never received a briefing about the trapdoor, which opened as it lifted the winners of the award up onto the stage.
She had been asked to present an award to the Love Island cast at the awards event at Wembley. While announcing it she did a twirl and fell into the open trapdoor as the cast were coming up to receive their award.
Gemma spoke to The Sun after the awards and said:
“I’ve got to consult a lawyer, yeah. The BBC, they’ve not been in touch with any compensation or anything — or even an apology.
“It’s very important this gets sorted out because, really, you know what it is — it’s negligence.
“Do you know what I find shocking? The BBC hasn’t sent any flowers. Nothing.”
She recently did an interview with This Morning and said:
“It could have been fatal but it wasn’t so do you know what? You’ve just got to dust yourself off.
“Yes, I’m in a bit of pain but it was the best moment of my life to stand on stage at Wembley Stadium but I just wish I hadn’t got so excited and spun round to give them the award and fell in the hole.
“My mum was crying her eyes out. I was like, ‘Mum I’m okay!’ and she was like, ‘Gemma, this could have been fatal, you could have died’.”
Twitter was awash with jokes and memes about it and she even made light of the whole incident on Instagram:
She even joked about the whole event saying:
“It was my left side that hit as I went down. I’ve got a bit of a booty and thank God for that because it has protected me. I have a bruised left bum cheek but apart from that I’m rocking and rolling.”
She said sorry to the Love Island cast who were probably shocked as her with what happened:
“I wiped them out and they had to go see paramedics after.
“They were screaming ‘Get her up! Her legs are gonna be crushed!’ because the platform underneath was raising up and my legs were dangling over the end of it so thank you to the two Love Island guys.
“But you know what, I lived to tell the tale, I got back up on stage, gave the award and went on to present with Grimmy and Rita.”
She went to her Instagram account after the incident and told fans:
“So Wembley Stadium people screaming my name and it was just OMG the best and worst moment of my LIFE.
“I’ve always compared myself to Bridget Jones now this confirms it everyone! Madonna stacks it, I stack it. Guys I am okay, and the show must go on. It’s gone VIRAL.”
Gemma Collins was due to appear on Strictly back in 2015 but was allegedly axed from the line up due to her ‘diva’ behaviour.
She was supposedly all set to strut her stuff on the show but she was thought to have annoyed producers in the run up to rehearsals .
A source told the Daily Star at the time:
“Gemma was quite demanding when it came to pre-series filming commitments.
“Her diva persona is a hit with fans but didn’t go down well at Strictly.”
After this bosses of the popular show decided it was best to cut her from the show. Would her behaviour be any different next time around?
A spokesperson for Gemma at the time denied she was linked with the show though saying:
“Gemma has never met with Strictly bookers and there were absolutely no discussions or plans for her to appear on the show”, he added.
Seems like letting her appear on the next Strictly Come Dancing would be the best option for both parties but how would she do on the show itself? Only time will tell if she appears or not but we’re sure it would be entertaining non the less, lets just hope she has no trap doors to contend with!
