We’ve seen some of the most outrageous weddings on Don’t Tell the Bride, all thanks to the groom who has the responsibility of organising plans and making sure he impresses the guests and most importantly, his wife-to-be. It’s well-known for there to be a few tears shed in the process, but it’s never been the case that the bride has refused to say ‘I Do – until now.
With £14,000 to spend and total freedom to splash out on whatever takes their fancy; things can go seriously wrong very easily as the groom has free reign to do as he pleases.
On this week’s episode, Craig and Sofia were hoping to tie the knot – with the bride-to-be dreaming of a relaxed and romantic bohemian-style beach wedding. Talking to the E4 cameras, she confessed she had high hopes for her husband-to-be and would be severe consequences if he didn’t achieve what she was hoping for: “If Craig doesn’t know me by now it’s probably warning signs.
“If after eight years of being together, if they can’t pick what you want at your wedding, I don’t think you should be together. If he gets things really wrong and I don’t like anything, I actually won’t go.” she warned.
As you may have guessed, Craig really messed things up on the wedding day, but it wasn’t just the reception that left Sofia fuming -she even refused to go to her own hen-do that Craig had planned.
Craig stated that he aimed to base the theme of the big day on his “old party lifestyle, getting everyone together for loads of drinking and a crazy wild party.”, therefore booked Sofia and her friends onto a brewery tour and a drink at a local pub in Luton.
He, on the other hand, booked a lad’s holiday to Prague and was faced with having to answer a phone call from his fiance’s friend to hear the news that Sofia was having a meltdown over his choices. Breaking the news, the friend told him: “It didn’t go down too well, the brewery. She’s really upset and doesn’t want to go ahead with anything.”
The couple had been together for eight years and even have two children together, but it seems Craig still didn’t know his bride well enough to pull out the stops.
He went ahead and chose a Bavarian-style wedding dress for Sofia, as well as similarly designed bridesmaids dresses to compliment the theme. Appalled by Craig’s decisions once again, Sofia broke down in tears: “I hate it, I hate everything about it. Why would he make me wear anything so ugly?” before asking one of her friends to call again and inform him that she was refusing to turn up to the wedding if the matter wasn’t solved.
Luckily, Craig decided to swap the gown for something a little more to Sofia’s taste, but was left furious that she had decided to intervene: “This is so Sofia…spoilt little brat, hasn’t got her own way.” he said.
In true Don’t Tell the Bride style, Craig ditched any preconceptions of what Sofia may have been more comfortable with and opted for an Oktoberfest-themed reception.
Not exactly everyone’s cup-of-tea it could be argued and as you may have guessed, Sofia wasn’t a fan. Far from impressed by the bizarre theme, she stuck to her word and refused to walk down the aisle, which sent the show into complete chaos.
Instead, she decided to run to a nearby KFC to change out of her dress; but poor Craig ended up following her to apologise for his HUGE mistake.
“I’m sorry that it’s f****d up,” Craig said. “I f****d up, I got it wrong… and I wasn’t doing anything against you, I wasn’t trying to make you look silly.”
The pair went off to have a private chat in a nearby park and came to the arrangement that Sofia would ‘go through the motions’ of the day for the sake of the show, but was refusing to make their vows official.
26-year-old Sofia said: “I don’t want to marry someone that nasty. There’s no point in letting him make a fool of me.
“I’m done, I don’t think there’s any chance of salvaging it. I’ve given him so many chances.”
For the first time in the history of the series, the couple decided to opt out of marrying and are now said to be ‘working on their relationship’.
Before the credits rolled on screen, the show announced: “At the time of making this programme Craig and Sofia had decided not to make their wedding legal and were working together on their relationship,”.
“I think we need deep serious talks and try and get back on track – but who knows with us.” Sophia told cameras behind-the-scenes.
Looking back on the experience, Craig said: “She thinks I’m trying to make her look stupid and I wasn’t…I was trying to make this fun. It’s not a beer festival, it’s a party.
I don’t know why she thought it was a good idea giving me control. This was a bad idea, a very bad idea.”
Viewers of the show were mindblown by the couple’s choice not to wed:
“I’ve never seen an episode of Don’t Tell the Bride where they actually don’t get married #awkward.” one wrote.
Another concerned fan wrote: “That was the saddest don’t tell the bride ever poor guy”, while another added: “Omfg this episode of Don’t Tell the Bride is ridiculous”.
“Omg actual most awkward don’t tell the bride saying their vows when they hate each other and cancelling it” one viewer said.
“This bride on Don’t Tell the Bride is absolutely appalling!! You’re on reality TV, what did you expect?! Should the important thing not be marrying the person you love and not getting everything your own way?! No wonder I rarely watch TV! #donttellthebride” another viewer chipped in.
“Don’t tell the bride stresses me out! Don’t let tour fiancé plan your wedding if you are that crazy about it!” one quipped, before another wrote on the social media site: “Poor Craig it was really harsh on him and I don’t think it will last five seconds #dttb she shouldn’t have gone through with it like that”.
