It’s been a rough few months for Ant McPartlin. Firstly, he was forced to go to rehab during the summer for a drink and drug addiction and last week he made the announcement that he would be splitting up from his wife Lisa Armstrong after a 12-year marriage. If that wasn’t enough the 42-year-old has now had tostand-up for himself after a few ‘untrue’ reports.
Ant has slammed the media for publicising that he has been having a major ‘meltdown’ at the thought of tonight’s National Television Awards.
Posting on Ant and Dec’s official Twitter page, Ant fumed at the rumours in a sweary tweet to put an end to the deliberation: “What a load of sh#t!” he wrote before signing his name with “A”.
In a separate tweet, he made followers aware of his excitement of the big occasion, writing: “Can’t wait for the nta2018 it will be a right hoot!! A x.”
If presenting duo Ant and Dec were to win the award for Best Presenter, this will make it their 17th year to scoop the prize, after first winning back in 2001.
Presenter of the NTA ceremony Dermot O’Leary has also stated that he is glad Ant is back on track with his career after his battles over the summer: “It’s great to see the boys back on, back working together.” he said. “I text both of them a fair bit – but it would be ungallant for me to share those.”
He also went on to add that although he has presented high-profile shows such as The X Factor, even he still gets nervous when it comes to taking on a gig: “The first three or four minutes when you’re live – that’s terrifying.
“You walk out and there’s six, seven thousand people and you’re just going ‘Holy s**t’. But then you’ve gotta go, ‘Right. I sort of know what I’m doing’. You let all of that insanity play out. And actually, it makes you very comfortable in your own skin when stuff does go wrong.” he said.
While Ant may be excited about tonight’s awards, it’s going to also be fairly awkward as his wife Lisa may also be in attendance, due to her job as a make-up artist for Strictly Come Dancing.
Last night, Ant and Dec practically crashed the internet after pleading with fans to vote for them for an award via the NTA website.
In a tweet, they wrote: ‘Less than 24 hours to vote for all your favourites at the @OfficialNTAs. Vote closes at noon tomorrow.’ before adding a link which directed fans to the website to vote.
Due to the number of users who followed the link, the website completely crashed, with many fans left angered that they couldn’t access the voting poll at all.
One angry user wrote: “Still trying vote but NTA site is still down!!! Is it a conspiracy!!”
“I have been trying to vote on #NTA #awards but says come back later.” another added.
Whilst many presume the inability to access the website was solely down to the tweet, an NTA spokesperson made a statement which failed to confirm whether or not this was the case: “There were some issues on certain operating systems but they were soon resolved.” they said.
If they were to lose against competitors Holly Willoughby, Phillip Schofield and Bradley Walsh, all will not be lost as the duo are up for another three awards – which they have a very high chance of scooping.
Now that Ant has become single, fans are worried who he will turn to should he ever struggle again in his personal life. He frequently referred to his wife, Lisa as his ‘rock’ and an insider told The Sun that the next few months will be extremely ‘difficult’ for the 42-year-old, who allegedly made the tough decision to call it quits on the marriage.
Due to the divorce, Ant will be splitting his fortune 50/50 with Lisa, which is reportedly about to set him back a huge £62 million.
Lisa has since left the home she shared with Ant and has gone to stay with friend, Claire Buckfield, who allegedly once dated Ant’s co-presenter, Dec.
A statement was released confirming the divorce last week, in which a spokesperson said: “In response to the recent speculation in the media, Ant is very sad to announce that, after eleven years, he is ending his marriage to Lisa.

“Ant asks for privacy at this difficult time, for both himself, Lisa and their immediate families.”
A source close to Lisa stated that she is still in good spirits despite the traumatic circumstances and is aiming to get on with the rest of her life now that the divorce has been announced.
“Lisa is a survivor and has been through a lot – and she has no intention of acting any differently now.” she said.
“‘Some friends invited Lisa to stay and have been cheering her up, they have been a real support. ‘While Lisa is going through so much right now she hasn’t lost her humour, they have been keeping her in good spirits.”
With the news of the split shocking many fans, a source went on to say that the announcement of divorce had been a long-time coming due to their personal troubles and is the correct decision for the two of them at this moment in time.
“It hasn’t happened overnight, they have been having problems for ages.” they said. “The marriage has effectively been struggling for eight months — he’s given it a good go.
“They’ve met up and spoken about it a number of times and this is the decision he has made.
Due to Lisa’s make-up job on a number of reality shows on prime-time TV, she has since decided to quit her spot on Britain’s Got Talent to avoid having to face Ant – but will still continue to be a part of the spin-off show of ‘Britain’s Got More Talent’ instead.
The National Television Awards will be aired on ITV 1 this evening at 7.30pm.
