When the actress made a surprise appearance on Sunday Brunch last weekend, those who were teenagers in the 2000s were given a hearty dose of nostalgia!
And if you were indeed a teenager during that time, then it’s probably not too much of a stretch to suggest that you watched Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging at least, what, 50 times? Maybe more? Come on, don’t lie to me.
But have you ever wondered what happened to Georgia Groome, the actress who played our favourite awkward schoolgirl Georgia Nicolson?
Well if it wasn’t made obvious by her appearance on Sunday Brunch, Georgia is indeed still in the business, as was made apparent when she was joined in the kitchen by Michael Socha of This Is England fame, to promote their new upcoming film Double Date.
The new flick, described as a ‘horror comedy’, tells the story of a young man named Jim who seeks to lose his virginity before he turns 30. However, he and his friend (who is played by Socha) end up meeting a pair of gorgeous sisters named Kitty and Lulu (played by Georgia), who seduce them as part of their fiendish plans involving virgin sacrifice.
Talking about the movie, Georgia said: “It was fairly low budget. So not very long [to film]. It was about five weeks.”
I’d go out on a limb and say that Double Date sounds like a fun Halloween flick, but people seemed to be more interested in the fact that Georgia had just randomly popped up on their TV screens.
People took to Twitter to voice their surprise for the appearance.
One said: @Georgia_Groome Angus thongs and perfect snogging was my favourite film of all time! You’re an amazing actress!”
Another said: “@SundayBrunchC4 great to see @Georgia_Groome on tv again. Loved her in ‘Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging.”
A third commented: “As if Georgia from Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging is on Sunday Brunch, my 13 year old self is fangirling so hard”
And a shocked fourth simply said: “Omg Georgia off angus thongs and perfect snogging on Sunday Brunch.”
However, despite the fanfare and the call backs on social media to the role that made her in the eyes of her fans, she wasn’t exactly ready to rave about it.
When asked about her role in Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging by hosts Simon Rimmer and Tim Lovejoy, she said: “Angus was nice, but I don’t think a second one would have been worth it, so we were quite glad we didn’t have to go back.”
Needless to say, that comment struck fans to their cores, who took to social media again, this time to voice their indignation at Georgia’s indifference.
On said: “Is anyone else watching Sunday Brunch and outraged at Georgia’s ambivalence to Angus, Thongs??”
But before the pitchforks are sharpened and the fires lit, Georgia took to Twitter to reassure her fans, after she was asked by one fan: “@Georgia_Groome if there was a second Angus Thongs & perfect snoggging film would you do it?!”
To which Georgia replied: “I Think I’m probably too old now but if there was a way then yes!”
Well, if the Rolling Stones have taught us anything, it’s that you’re never too old to rock and roll.
